Discontinuous Galerkin for Compressible Euler Equations

Course: Computational Fluid Dynamics (MAE 766)
Instructor: Dr. Hong Luo

Overview

This project develops a solver for the 2D compressible Euler equations and applies it to flow around a NACA 0012 airfoil, a cylinder, and a channel with a bump.

Work completed

  • Developed a discontinuous Galerkin-based finite-volume solver using the Van Leer flux-vector-splitting method.
  • Performed a grid-convergence study.
  • Simulated subsonic, transonic, and supersonic cases and identified shock locations and aerodynamic forces.
